Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Zipscreen as a break against heavy winds?

Exterior Shades are not designed to endure heavy winds. We recommend shades to be drawn and secured during heavy winds and storms. Consult your Zipscreen supplier for further details.

Can Zipscreen be used if the area is out of square?

Zipscreen features a unique side adjustment which can help mitigate installation issues in unaligned/out of square areas. Contact your closest Zipscreen supplier for their measure and quote service.

How do I care for my Zipscreen?

We recommend regular cleaning (at least every 3 months) to ensure surfaces are free from dirt, dust and grime. Use a soft brush to clean the shades, paying particular attention along the side channels to prevent dust and dirt build up. Aluminum extrusions can be cleaned with a soft cloth and warm soapy water or a small amount of mild detergent if required. Do not use any oil-based sprays as it can cause dirt and grime build up in the side guides and can damage certain fabrics.

How does the unique side fastening system work?

The fastener is welded onto the fabric and fed into the side rails, allowing it to be securely guided up and down in operation. This unique fastening system provides the stability and protection needed in exterior shading systems.

How large can Zipscreen be made?

Your exterior roller shades can expand to a total area of 376 feet 9 inches square. The maximum possible width is 23 feet and maximum drop is 16 feet . If your area is larger than this, please consult with a professional for further advice.

What colors are available?

There are five standard colors available for the fittings: White, Bronze, Black, Woodland Gray, and Paperbark. The shade cloth is sold separately. Please consult your supplier to see the fabric selection, including our heavy-duty Texstyle exterior fabrics.

Where can I use Zipscreen Shades?

The most common use is for outdoor patio shades. They are easily installed on verandas, balconies and other outdoor living areas, and even as pergola shades. Increasingly, Zipscreen is being used as an outdoor window covering providing a stylish alternative to shutters or awnings. The exterior shades prevent the heat from the sun from reaching the window pane, which helps maintain a cooler indoor temperature.

Where do I buy Zipscreen Shades?

Zipscreen shades are available across the U.S. and Canada. Please visit our Where to buy section to contact us for a list of suppliers in your area.

Why use an exterior sunshade?

Exterior shades create a comfortable outdoor area, whether you want to stay cool on hot summer days, trap the heat in the cooler months, or simply create a barrier to protect from insects and weather. Exterior shades minimize your reliance on heating and cooling, reducing energy costs while helping the environment.
